Yuta Okkotsu vs. Kurourushi is a battle fought by Tokyo Jujutsu High second-year student and special grade jujutsu sorcerer, Yuta Okkotsu against the special grade cockroach cursed spirit, Kurourushi. It takes place in the Sendai Colony of the Culling Game when Kurourushi awakened from its dormant state following Dhruv Lakdawalla's elimination.
Prologue
At 11:28 A.M. on November 12 in the Sendai Colony, Yuta defeats and kills Dhruv Lakdawalla.[1] Afterward, Yuta checks on a group of civilians caught up in the Culling Game that he's been protecting. At first, Yuta wants them to continue moving and keep pushing toward the north edge of the barrier surrounding Sendai. He changes his mind after noticing a mother and daughter struggling to go on. Instead, Yuta tells everyone to rest inside the stadium that Dhruv was using as a base, confident that no one would dare approach it.
The momentary peace is interrupted by an unnerving chittering noise that keeps growing louder and more threatening. Aware that danger is likely approaching, Yuta unsheathes his katana and orders the civilians to hurry and run inside the stadium. The culprit behind the chittering noise is a massive swarm of insects headed toward Yuta's position. It's already killed another group of people, leaving only one man out front still trying to flee.
Yuta attempts to save the last survivor by grabbing his arm and leaping over the swarm. Unfortunately, the bugs immediately devour the man's lower body and then strip his flesh from the rest of his body within seconds. The swarm targets Yuta right after but he's able to deflect them using his katana. Yuta notices that it's a swarm of cockroaches and each one is reinforced with cursed energy.
The swarm turns away from Yuta and targets the group of civilians trying to get into the stadium. Yuta orders Rika to stop the cockroaches by crushing a bridge everyone had to pass underneath to move toward the stadium. The bridge falls on top of the insects, forcing them to circle back towards Yuta. The special grade sorcerer charges his katana with cursed energy and swings it to unleash a devastating blastwave that annihilates the entire swarm in one shot.
With its feeding plans foiled, the cursed spirit controlling the insects reveals itself. Yuta asks Kogane if its a player and the shikigami confirms its a player known as the special grade cockroach curse, Kurourushi. The cursed spirit has an endless appetite and found itself starving after awakening from its dormant state. It only went dormant to avoid Dhruv Lakdawalla, and with his elimination, Kurourushi is ready to make its move. Yuta interrupted its meal so now Kurourushi's instincts are directing it to devour him.
Before engaging in a fight, Yuta refocuses himself on his primary goal inside the Sendai Colony. Determined to make up for his absence in Shibuya, Yuta resolves to kill Kenjaku and score 400 points all on his own so that his comrades can add the requisite rules to get the Culling Game under control. He takes his swordsmanship stance, poised to fight Kurourushi, and the cursed spirit responds by unveiling ts ultimate weapon, the Festering Life Sword.[2]
Battle
Kurourushi opens with a heavy verticle slash using the Festering Life Sword. The special grade sorcerer counters the attack with his superior speed and severs the arm holding the cursed tool completely. Then Yuta stabs his katana through Kurourushi's severed arm and pins it to a rock to keep his opponent disarmed.
Yuta quickly capitalizes on his unarmed opponent by striking Kurourushi with a hard elbow that sends it skidding across the river. Kurourushi tries to recover and gain some distance from Yuta by flying over the bridge above the river. However, Yuta predicted its movements, having already recovered his katana before scaling the bridge immediately after landing his last attack.
Yuta rips one of the guardrails off the edge of the bridge and throws it at the flying cockroach curse. The spinning guardrail hits Kurourushi and gives Yuta enough time to close the distance between them. He leaps at Kurourushi and attempts to behead it with a powerful diving slash that sends them both crashing down into the shallow river. Despite the force behind Yuta's attack, Kurourushi blocks it using a growing swarm of cockroaches. Yuta slashes the insects away from himself before the swarm grows too large and Kurourushi uses the opportunity to get out of range of his attacks.
Kurourushi recovers the Festering Life Sword and takes position atop a swirling twist made up the of its cursed cockroaches. Yuta knows he can exorcise Kurourushi using reverse cursed technique but he doesn't want the players with high scores that are observing the battle to get a read on his techniques. Additionally, Rika is protecting the civilians at the stadium, so Yuta decides to try and win without using either advantage. Kurourushi speaks to Yuta and asks why its feeding has been interrupted. Yuta replies by asking the cockroach curse why it kills people and Kurourushi simply responds by revealing it likes the taste of iron.
Standing atop of the twister of cockroaches, Kurourushi chants blinding several times in a row while using a single hand sign to focus its cursed energy. This allows Kurourushi to summon two flying insect curses using its extension technique: Earthen Insect Trance. Kurourushi goes on the offensive by circling Yuta using the tornado and forces the sorcerer to counterattack. Yuta stabs his katana into the riverbed with enough force to create a wave capable of dispersing the swarm of cockroaches. This distraction allows the two curses conjured by Earthen Insect Trance to get close behind Yuta.
Yuta turns around in time to intercept the curses, slicing them both apart with his katana. Their bodies unexpectedly release a liquid that gets into Yuta's eyes and impairs his vision. While Yuta tries to wipe the substance from his eyes, Kurourushi attacks him from behind. Kurourushi slashes the Festering Life Sword at Yuta again but the sorcerer blocks it with his katana. After the blades clash, the fives holes in the front of the Festering Life Sword fire projectiles that injure Yuta's left shoulder. Yuta backs off, having suspected the cursed tool might have that kind of function based on its appearance.
Suddenly, Yuta feels something amiss in his body as veins begin to pop out of the left side of his face. Two insect curses spawn out of Yuta's wound and force the sorcerer to use his katana to cut them away. This leaves Yuta wide open to a follow-up assault and Kurourushi capitalizes by slashing him across his torso, cursing him with even more festering wounds.
Yuta spits up blood and appears to fall unconscious. Kurourushi grows two additional arms from its body to hold Yuta. It's poised to devour Yuta's body whole when his eyes suddenly reopen and glare at the cockroach curse. Yuta grabs hold of Kurourushi's head and bites its face, driving positive energy from his brain directly into the cursed spirit's body. This compromises the integrity of Kurourushi's cursed energy-based anatomy. allowing Yuta to brutally rip the cockroach curse in half before dropping its dismembered pieces onto the ground.[3]
Aftermath
Yuta heals his injuries and spits out Kurourushi's flesh as the rest of its remains disintegrate into smoke. Having officially eliminated the special grade cockroach curse from the Culling Game, Yuta is rewarded with an announcement from his Kogane that he's attained five more points.
Ryu Ishigori watches from afar and analyzes Yuta's victory. He realizes that Yuta converted reversed cursed technique into output and then drove it into Kurourushi's body using a mouth-to-mouth blast. Reverse cursed technique is achieved in the brain, so Ryu agrees that Yuta's method was the most effective for quickly dispatching the curse. However, it still disgusting to Ryu and he claims he'd never attempt something like that.
Meanwhile, Takako Uro sneaks up behind Yuta and tells him it looks like he can use reversed cursed technique. Initially unware of her presence, Yuta is surprised and quickly tries to turn around to respond to the threat. Uro counterattacks with her cursed technique that manipulates the sky, warping the space around the battle.[4]
