Nobara Kugisaki vs. Mai Zenin is a battle fought between Tokyo Jujutsu High first-year student Nobara Kugisaki and Kyoto Jujutsu High second-year student Mai Zenin during the leadup to the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event.
Prologue
On the day of the Sister School Kyoto Goodwill Event meeting, Aoi Todo and Mai Zenin decide to visit their sister school underclassmen to talk trash. They confront Megumi and Nobara in an underpass somewhere on school grounds.
Megumi is surprised to see Mai and asks why she's here. Nobara is surprised to learn that Mai is Maki's sister. Aoi address Megumi and Nobara as "replacements" and Mai inquires about their dead classmate.
She calls Yuji "half monster" and asks how bad it was to be around hime. Annoyed, Megumi and Nobara mostly ignore her and Aoi completely changes the subject. He's only worried about if they're worthy replacements for Yuta Okkotsu.
Aoi takes off his shirt and asks Megumi what kind of girls he likes, confusing the first years.[1] Megumi replies by asking why he would reveal such information to someone he just met. Aoi explains that someone's personal tastes reveals everything about them. If they have boring tastes, then they're a boring person and Aoi hates boring people.
Megumi says that as long as a person is compassionate, then that's all he needs. While Mai and Nobara are impressed with his answer, Aoi claims that Megumi is boring after all.[2]
Battle
Aoi calls Megumi boring and attacks him. Nobara calls out to her friend and attempts to help, but Mai grabs her from behind and says Megumi is no match for Aoi. In response, Nobara tells Mai that her sister Maki is one-hundred times prettier than her. This aggravates Mai, who pulls out her cursed tool, a revolver pistol.[3]
While Megumi fights with Aoi, Mai apparently shoots Nobara at least four times with bullets made of cursed energy. Nobara is laid out on the ground when Maki arrives to find that her errand girl is being bullied by her twin sister.[4]
After they exchange verbal jabs, Maki asks Nobara if she can stand. Mai assumes that she won't be able to move for a while, but suddenly Nobara gets up and wrestles Mai to the ground while putting her in a grappling hold. Apparently Mai ruined Nobara's new tracksuit and she demands Mai's uniform as payment. Mai claims Nobara's legs are too short to wear it, outraging the first-year student. Before the fighting escalates, Aoi returns to tell Mai that they're leaving.[5]
Aftermath
Mai leaves with Aoi, but not before telling her rivals that Kyoto will go all out at the Kyoto Goodwill Event. Nobara scoffs at the idea that Mai won but Maki reassures her that they'll win the event.
Afterward, Nobara asks Maki if its true that she can't use cursed energy, which she confirms. Despite this, she wants to be a jujutsu sorcerer to prove people wrong. This resolve impresses Nobara, who expresses how much she respects Maki.[6]
