Dura Val Bobbidi Mechika, Part 2 (ドゥーラ・ヴァル・ボビディ・メチカ ( (こう) (へん) ) Dūra Varu Bobidi Mechika Kōhen?) is the ninth chapter of Gege Akutami's and Yuji Iwasaki's Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Summary

As retribution for his daughter's death, the Deskunte chief demanded the Rumelians' land and canal. To protect his people, Dura accepted the challenge to duel the Deskunte tribe's champion.

Plot Details

A Simurian's third eye is an essential organ, as it is the source of their rolloluca (cursed energy). While most Simurians cry from their third eye when they are born or when they die, Rumelians uniquely shed tears from their third eye when a Kalyan dies. However, crying from the third eye is extremely harmful to the brain and can even be fatal.

The Rumelian elder informed the villagers that the Deskunte chief's daughter had been killed by a Kalyan and accused the Rumelians of provoking the beasts into attacking the Deskuntes. As reparations, he demanded the annexation of 90% of Rumelian territory, including the canal, and threatened war if they refused. He then explained that the Deskuntes had challenged them to a duel, their traditional method of resolving disputes in which each side selects a champion to fight one-on-one. If the Deskuntes won, they would claim their demands; if they lost, they would have to accept the Rumelians’ counterdemands.

Upon hearing this, the villagers felt relieved, as Dura had previously won a fighting tournament hosted by the Deskuntes before the destruction of their village. Because of this, they were confident he would win the duel. Dura, however, was far less certain, noting that many formidable warriors had not participated in the tournament. With refusing the duel being equivalent to losing it, Dura accepted the challenge on behalf of the Rumelian tribe.

On the day of the duel, Dabura entered the arena as the Deskunte champion, terrifying the Rumelians merely by his presence. Despite Cross’s desperate pleas, Dura stepped into the ring and spoke with Dabura, learning that the Deskuntes were holding Dabura's sister hostage to force him to fight to the death. After Dabura agreed to a request Dura made of him, Dura addressed the audience and revealed that the true reason the Deskuntes invaded Rumelian territory a decade ago was to seize their mul resources, not for religious reasons. He then implored the crowd to respect the Rumelians' way of life, to help them, and to treat them as neighbors. Once Dura finished his speech, the Deskunte chief ordered Dabura to begin the duel.

Dura was subsequently defeated and killed by Dabura. While the Rumelians mourned, an enraged Maru attempted to attack Dabura but was stopped by Cross. Maru accused Dabura of disrespecting Dura by holding back during the duel, prompting Dabura to explain that he did not want to damage Dura's face. The Rumelians later learned that Dura and Dabura had been best friends who pushed each other to become stronger warriors. During Dura's funeral procession, Cross remembered Dura's explanation of the word "neighbor," yet found the idea impossible to accept now that Dura was gone. That night, as the Rumelians gathered around a fire to discuss their next steps, their situation seemed hopeless.

As they talked, Dabura suddenly arrived with another individual and informed the Rumelians that Dura had left something behind for them. He guided them to a pit filled with a massive quantity of mul that Dura had unearthed while constructing the canal. Remembering Dura's explanation for building the canal, Maru touched the mul, causing both the mineral and himself to glow. He then reached out to Cross, who took his hand and also began to shine with rolloluca. The surrounding mul shined and rose into the air, leading Jabaloma to realize they were minerals of even greater purity than mul. Maru proposed leading the Rumelians to search for a safer home outside of Simuria. Dabura asked to accompany them, having promised Dura that he would protect the Rumelians. As the mul coalesced into the spaceship Naunax behind him, Maru declared that the Rumelians would search for their neighbors beyond the sky!

4-Koma Bonus

At school, Yuka heard from her gossiping friends that her older brother Tsurugi and a girl named Mizuho liked each other, and she was asked to keep the information a secret. When she returned home, however, Yuka immediately revealed the secret to Panda, whom she believed to be an ordinary doll. Later, Yuka found Tsurugi and reminded him that it was his turn to clean the cursed warehouse. While he was cleaning, Panda suddenly spoke and asked Tsurugi what he liked about Mizuho, leaving the young boy completely bewildered.

The bonus four-panel manga describes my student life perfectly. (LOL) Though I was more like Yuka than Tsurugi.
