Inhuman Makyo (人外 (じんがい) () (きょう) Jingai Makyō?) is the twelfth chapter of Gege Akutami's and Yuji Iwasaki's Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Summary

The representatives of Japan and Simuria realize that cursed spirits are highly similar to Kalyans, and rush to halt the Great Purification Ritual being conducted at Tokyo, the Inhuman Makyo before other Simurians notice.

Plot Details

Cross informs Usami and Mino that some Simurians insist the Japanese are killing Kalyans. When Usami points out that Kalyans do not exist on Earth, Jabaloma explains that the witness was crying from his third eye and claimed to have seen Kalyans being killed in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Yuka, Tsurugi, and Maru are on a mission to maintain Tokyo's curse-warding barriers. Yuka explains that cursed spirits manifest primarily in Tokyo because the government publicized their existence after the Culling Game while falsely claiming they appear only there. To prevent cursed energy from leaking outward, the barriers must be maintained. After Yuka reinforces a cursed object with a talisman, Tsurugi notes that the Great Purification Ritual is approaching. Yuka explains to Maru that the ritual is a scheduled mass exorcism performed when the barriers are most vulnerable, preventing curses from escaping Tokyo. The former capital, now overrun with curses, is known as the Inhuman Makyo.

Inside Tokyo, two jujutsu sorcerers exorcise wasp-like cursed spirits. The senior sorcerer, Yakumaru, enters a building to clear it, only to discover an abnormal concentration of low-grade curses seemingly drawn to something. Following their trail, Yakumaru and his junior enter a hallway and are shocked to find a Simurian calmly interacting with a cursed spirit. The alien immediately notices the sorcerers when their flashlight shines on him and the curse.

Realizing the similarities between cursed spirits and Kalyans, Usami and Mino rush toward Tokyo. Cross and Jabaloma join them, proposing to use the Naunax to arrive faster. Meanwhile, Yuka warns Maru that cursed objects can eventually become beacons for curses rather than wards, which is why they need to be reinforced every so often. Maru expresses admiration for jujutsu sorcerers who choose to protect people, unlike Rumelian warriors whose roles are decided at birth by their village Kalyan. He explains that the village Kalyan has been worshipped for two thousand years, and adds that Rumelians even receive their middle names from the Kalyan, a revelation that earns only mild reactions from Tsurugi and Yuka.

When the representatives arrive in Tokyo, Yakumaru bursts from a building alongside the exorcised curse and calls for reinforcements, reporting interference by a Simurian. Spotting an approaching crowd of Simurians, he angrily claims he was attacked first and aims his weapon at them. Usami uses Cursed Speech to restrain him and announces the suspension of the ritual, explaining to Yakumaru that curses and Kalyans are similar. As tensions rise, Cross explains the nature of cursed spirits to Osuki, pointing out that a true Kalyan's death would cause greater strain on his third eye and directing him to the disappearing curse, which only happens since they lack physical forms like Kalyans. Though Usami and Jabaloma exchange apologies on behalf of their peoples, hostility remains between Yakumaru and Osuki. Just as Usami and Jabaloma plan to disperse their people, Yakumaru sees Cross reach into his clothes.

Elsewhere, Yuka, Tsurugi, and Maru discuss why the cursed objects must be placed in hard-to-reach or spiritually significant locations. Yuka laments the shortage of sorcerers, prompting Tsurugi to suggest that Rumelian assistance could help maintain the barriers. Excited by the idea, Maru promises to propose it to his people before the trio parts ways. Back in Tokyo, Cross is shot twice by Yakumaru, who mistook his movement as reaching for a weapon. The standoff erupts as both sides prepare to attack despite desperate pleas from Usami and Jabaloma to stop. Just as violence becomes inevitable, Dabura suddenly appears and demands to know what is happening.
