Majority Vote (
Summary
While the humans discussed whether to treat the Simurians as threats or not, the Simurians aboard Naunax cast their final vote to decide on their diplomatic approach towards the Earthlings.
Plot Details
A committee of jujutsu sorcerers reviews the recording of Maru's fight with Masaki Takeda. When one member questions whether Simurians should be granted such autonomy on Earth, Usami explains that Marulu only engaged the curse user after the two sorcerers accompanying him were incapacitated. Another committee member argues that Maru's attempt to harm Tsurugi should classify Simurians as threats under Article 7 of the Jujutsu Regulations. This alarms Mino, who had been ordered by Usami to delete footage of Maru and Tsurugi fighting, but Usami calmly clarifies that their clash was legal under the Hakari Provision, which allows contracted sorcerers to engage in paid combat. Anticipating complications, Usami had already made Maru a contracted sorcerer, legitimizing the brawl. When accused of siding with the Simurians and urged to locate Yuji Itadori as a deterrent, Usami rebukes the idea, criticizing his colleague for endangering both Japan and humanity before leaving the meeting.
Meanwhile, aboard the Simurian spaceship Naunax, the council prepares for a second vote on diplomacy with humans. On the way to the council chamber, Osuki vents to Boro about the voting system, who is confident the results will still favor war. Osuki expresses eagerness to invade Japan and take resources, just as the Deskunte tribe once stole from them. Elsewhere, Cross meets with Jabaloma, asking why he has withheld his vote. Jabaloma reveals his intention to vote alongside Cross; together, their combined twenty votes could overturn the pro-war majority. When the moment arrives, Cross reflects on his interactions with humans, his memories of Dura, and the destruction of his village.
After the vote concludes, Jabaloma tallies the results and announces the new majority decision: coexistence with humans. He outlines initial plans, including diplomatic discussions and cultural exchanges with Japan. Osuki lashes out in disbelief, pointing out that both Cross and Jabaloma had previously opposed coexistence. Cross explains that they had only withheld their votes until now. When Osuki claims the vote is invalid without Marulu present, Cross counters that Marulu supported coexistence and would have voted accordingly. Seeking support, Osuki turns to Dabura, who unexpectedly agrees with the council's decision, reminding them that conflict can begin at any time, but peace offers only a single chance. Afterward, Jabaloma expresses respect for Cross, who dismisses his actions as simple exhaustion with endless conflict.
Later, Usami, Tsurugi, and Yuka meet with Jabaloma and Cross, who explain the Kalyans and the reason the Simurians sought refuge. Usami proposes hosting a dinner party as their first cultural exchange, and Jabaloma accepts. Yuka, Tsurugi, Cross, and Maru are assigned to help with preparations. While reviewing their menu, Yuka wonders whether Simurians have allergies or dietary restrictions tied to their Kalyan worship, but Cross assures her they were livestock and fish eaters. When Yuka notices the menu lacks flour-based dishes and mentions takoyaki, Maru excitedly declares his love for it. Inspired, Yuka decides on a takoyaki party. As she and Maru discuss possible fillings, Tsurugi shows Cross a picture of a takopa, much to the alien's concern.
