Megumi Fushiguro vs. Reggie Star is a battle fought by Tokyo Jujutsu High first-year student, Megumi Fushiguro against incarnated sorcerer from the past, Reggie Star. It occurred in the Tokyo No. 1 Colony of the Culling Game when Megumi eliminated Chizuru Hari, and Fumihiko Takaba helped Megumi separate Reggie from Iori Hazenoki.

Prologue

Megumi tries to grab Reggie

Megumi attempts to grab Reggie from his shadow.

Fumihiko Takaba suddenly appears to help Megumi even the odds against Reggie and Hazenoki. After blocking a bomb for Megumi, Takaba tells a bad joke and his eccentric nature reminds Megumi of Aoi Todo. Takaba surprises everyone when he dropkicks Hazenoki into a building to prove he's an entertainer. His attack gives Megumi the opening to focus on Reggie. He before suddenly dropkicking Hazenoki into a building. This gives the Megumi the opportunity to attack Reggie from his shadow. Megumi's hand appears from below Reggie and he attempts to grab him. Reggie avoids getting caught by jumping away and Megumi only manages to grab a few receipts.

Megumi tells Takaba they should split up Reggie and Hazenoki while they have the opportunity. He informs his new ally about Hazenoki's body part bomb technique but abruptly stops when Takaba gets uncomfortable close while listening. Megumi checks his Kogane to make sure that Hiromi Higuruma was the one who added the newest rule and confirms that Yuji completed their mission.

Megumi threatens Reggie

"So I can fight for real... without holding back."

Able to focus on surviving, Megumi equips his sword from his shadow and gives Reggie one last chance to back off. Megumi reveals that he's finished in the Tokyo No. 1 Colony but Reggie tells him not to get presumptuous. Megumi eliminated Chizuru Hari and now Reggie's group needs to make up for lost points. Megumi asks Takaba to get Hazenoki's points if at all possible. Takaba accepts on the condition that his actions still entertain, but Megumi doesn't care as long as his new ally wins..[1]

Takaba overpowers Hazenoki in embarrassing fashion while Megumi and Reggie are in a standoff on top of a roof. Megumi expresses that he's glad Takaba is on his side, pleasing him. Takaba says goodbye to Megumi and tells him to stay alive before going to fight Hazenoki alone. Reggie claims that Takaba is going to die after mocking Hazenoki so much but Megumi tells Reggie to worry about himself. Megumi solemnly states that his goal has been accomplished in the Tokyo No. 1 Colony and he can fight Reggie earnestly without holding back.[2]

Battle

Reggie using a net to counter Megumi

Megumi and his rabbits try to take Reggie off guard.

Max Elephant chases Reggie on a road and the sorcerer makes a comment about his adversary showcasing yet another shikigami. Max Elephant attempts to spray Reggie with a torrent of water but Reggie jumps out to a wider area on the street to avoid getting wet. Standing on a structure above Reggie, Megumi attempts to capitalize by jumping down behind his target while accompanied by Rabbit Escape. Reggie quickly turns around and throws a large net to counter. Megumi avoids getting ensnared but the net manages to catch most of the rabbits. Reggie activates his innate technique, Contractual Re-Creation, which allows him to manifest objects written on the receipts that cover his body. He summons several kitchen knives and sends them toward Megumi as projectiles. Megumi deflects them with his sword but one stabs one of the last remaining rabbits.

Reggie giving simple commands to kitchen knives

Megumi deflects Reggie's kitchen knives.

Reggie recognizes that Megumi's tactics indicate that he's figured out how Contractual Re-Creation works. He gives Megumi a clear example of his technique by using a receipt for several days' stay at an inn with a spa treatment. This replenishes Reggie's stamina and leaves him feeling refreshed all the while Megumi is still worn out from the ambush. Megumi has also used Max Elephant on top of other shikigami, something he usually doesn't resort to. Reggie believes that Megumi can't summon shikigami once they're injured, so he writes Divine Dog: Totality off completely. He states that Megumi is limited in his actions because both of them lack big moves. Pecking away at one another little by little is the only way to achieve victory and Reggie claims Megumi won't be able to win like that.

Megumi agrees and says that he'll run instead, using Nue to fly away. Reggie refuses to let him escape and summons two flying drones to give chase. Then he re-creates a moped scooter and takes a leisurely drive while tracking Megumi's location with the drones. Megumi leads Reggie to a gymnasium which the latter decides not to burn down because he's not interested in more chasing. Inside the gym, Megumi walks around on the basketball court and inspects the space, mentally noting that the space is as large as he hoped. Reggie comes inside and asks his opponent what he's planning. Megumi replies that Reggie probably has something up his sleeve and the latter agrees, claiming a sorcerer is nothing but a con artist.

Reggie attacks Megumi

Reggie's unconventional offense overwhelms Megumi.

Suddenly, two trucks break through the side of the gymnasium while speeding toward Megumi. Reggie's comment about not having any big moves was deceitful, annoying Megumi. He avoids the trucks by sliding underneath them. By the time he's able to stand back up, Reggie has re-created two potted plants above him. Reggie drops both plants on Megumi's head, busting him open. While Megumi is bleeding from the head and disoriented, Reggie capitalizes and slices him with a knife. Megumi is unable to avoid getting hit and suffers several cuts to his left arm and back. Reggie keeps up the pressure by throwing a daikon at Megumi which breaks open to reveal a knife inside. The knife stabs into Megumi's arm and Reggie follows up with a front kick to Megumi's face that knocks him across the gymnasium floor.

Megumi uses Chimera Shadow Garden against Reggie

Megumi traps Reggie inside Chimera Shadow Garden.

Having thoroughly overpowered his opponent, Reggie mercifully tells Megumi to hand over all his points to earn an easy death. Megumi replies by revealing that barrier techniques are difficult for him but he can compensate by using the gymnasium as a perfect fit for his domain. Not expecting Megumi to be a sorcerer capable of using a domain, Reggie is completely taken back when Megumi encloses a barrier around them and actives his Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden. Megumi turns the tables back in his favor and tells Reggie he never said he didn't have any big moves.[3]

Reggie responds by activating the anti-domain technique Hollow Wicker Basket, making him confident that he'll remain unharmed. To his surprise, four Toads manifest around him and use their tongues to restrain his legs. Hollow Wicker Basket counters barriers and their imbued cursed technique to nullify the guaranteed-hit, not cursed techniques themselves. Megumi converted the gymnasium into his domain and therefore it doesn't incorporate a sure-hit function. This imperfection catches Reggie off guard, as his esoteric technique has been rendered ineffective. Reggie gets annoyed and tells Megumi not to get cocky, only to be interrupted by an abrupt barrage of blows.

Megumi's shadow clones attack Reggie

Megumi and his shadow clones pummel Reggie.

While Reggie's legs are still wrapped-up, Megumi manifests two shadow clones and fights with them to pummel him. They land several punches and knees that knock Reggie down. Before he falls completely, Reggie manifests combat knives and uses them to sever the tongues restraining him. Then he summons a machete and prepares to counterattack, only to be abruptly grabbed from his shadow. One of the clones takes Reggie by his ankle and throws him toward Megumi's main body. Megumi swings his sword but Reggie manages to block it with his machete. Another clone elbows Reggie across the face from the side while he's still occupied with Megumi, landing a heavy hit.

Megumi slashes Reggie

Megumi overpowers Reggie inside his domain.

Overwhelmed by the volume of attacks, Reggie realizes that Megumi's domain is incomplete while still greatly increasing the function of his technique. He knows he'll lose if Megumi brings out Max Elephant again and showers him with water. Reggie refuses to let that happen and releases a few receipts that manifest into three cars. The vehicles sink into the shadows of the domain and Megumi's posture is forced downward by immense pressure. Reggie's figured out that Megumi must bear the weight of anything inside his shadow and used that to turn the domain against him. The shadow clones have been crushed and Reggie plans to keep piling on weight until Megumi joins them.

Reggie drops three cars into Megumi's shadow

Reggie turns the domain's conditions against Megumi.

Megumi defiantly reminds Reggie that even an incomplete domain is still a domain, meaning there are shadows above Reggie as well. Max Elephant appears from the shadows of the ceiling and drops on top of Reggie while dousing him with a blast of water at the same time. With their fight turned into a contest of bearing weight, Megumi taunts Reggie and asks who will be crushed first.[4] Megumi is carrying about forty units of g-force from the weight of the cars. In order to prevent blood from collecting mostly in his lower limbs, Megumi crouches down and uses cursed energy to reinforce his entire body, especially the lower half. The increased functionality of Megumi's technique replicates Max Elephant's weight realistically. Reggie is barely able to hold it up and the weight fractured his right fibula and heel bone. The pressure both of them are under could crush them to death at any moment.

Now in an unfavorable situation, Reggie laments about wasting the trucks earlier. He's been soaked with water but Reggie has something even heavier in his arsenal he can still summon, his ace. Reggie tries coming up with a plan to unleash it and considers hiding in the shadows to activate his technique. He quickly realizes this is too risky because he might get trapped if Megumi dies, assuming he could operate inside the shadows at all. Instead, Reggie tries to withstand the weight and use his technique at the same time. This fails and Reggie falls into the shadows of the domain where there is no resistance or oxygen and he can't do anything but fall indefinitely.

Max Elephant drops on Reggie

"There's a shadow above you too!"

Megumi waits to dispel the domain and empty his shadow until he's sure Reggie is dead. However, before Reggie loses consciousness, he orders one of the cars he dropped into the shadow to take him back up to the surface. Things he re-creates can behave like shikigami, but they disappear after being given a command. He was using the vehicle's weight so he didn't give it an order until now. Reggie commends Megumi's strength amd claims that he's even stronger while unveiling his ace in the hole. Reggie summons a small two-story house with enough weight to surely finish Megumi.

Reggie unleashes his ace

Reggie's ace in the hole.

Suddenly, Reggie finds himself underwater with Megumi strangling him from behind. Megumi is using the added weight against Reggie, forcing him to undo Contractual Re-creation before he drowns. Reggie emerges from the water and realizes he's inside a pool on the basement floor of the gymnasium. Megumi fled into the shadows before the house fell on him and dispelled the domain. The house broke the floor of the basketball court, sending Reggie falling into the pool below. Megumi was able to move by ejecting himself from the shadow, allowing him to grab Reggie inside the pool.

Megumi allows Reggie to recover and states that his receipts are too wet to use now. Reggie replies by claiming Megumi is all out of shikigami and the latter agrees it's a physical fight from here on out. However, Reggie recognizes that Megumi waited in order to replenish his cursed technique. He knows Megumi will bring out another shikigami and plans to counter him at that moment.

Reggie beating Megumi in close combat

Megumi and Reggie's battle comes down a physical exchange.

Both fighters face off for one last exchange and Reggie makes the first move with a lead right punch. Megumi uses the bottom of his blade to parry Reggie's punch off to the side. Then he turns and swings the blade behind his back in an upward motion. Reggie avoids this slash while assuring himself the shikigami Megumi will eventually summon won't be Divine Dog. Reggie doesn't think any other shikigami Megumi possesses can defeat him and believes he's sure to achieve victory as soon as Megumi lets up to summon it. He throws a flurry of right kicks that breaks through Megumi's guard, attempting to pressure him into summoning a shikigami. He follows up with a fierce right uppercut but Reggie suddenly suffers a fatal blow before his attack ever lands.

Reggie fatally wounded

Divine Dog deals a finishing blow Reggie never saw coming.

The large portion of the left side of Reggie's face, neck, and shoulder are abruptly sheered off in an instant. He's surprised by the incredible speed with which he was hit and turns around to see none other than Divine Dog: Totality. The dog bit off a large chunk of Reggie's flesh and still has the stab wounds from earlier. Megumi reveals that Reggie's earlier attack wasn't nearly enough to take out Divine Dog. This forces Reggie to realize his opponent was waiting until he completely dismissed the possibility of Divine Dog returning to the fight. Outsmarted and defeated, Reggie repeats that a sorcerer is nothing but a con artist and collapses to the ground.[5]

Aftermath

While laying in a pool of his own blood, Reggie surmises that the domain and the pool concealed that Megumi could still summon Divine Dog. He also knows that Megumi never ran away and it was always his intention to lead Reggie inside the gym. Frustrated, Reggie admits he's been outsmarted by a modern-day sorcerer and a kid to add insult to injury. Megumi explains that Nue can't carry him for an extended period of time, something he learned while trying to scale Shibuya C Tower with Yuji and Ino.

Reggie's last moments

Reggie graciously accepts his death.

Megumi asks Reggie if he knows Tengen but it takes him a moment to even remember that the hermit would still be alive in this time period. Reggie's theory for the Culling Game is different from Tengen's so Megumi considers the possibility he could be working with Kenjaku. He finds this conclusion unlikely and drops the subject.

Reggie transfers all of his points to Megumi as a good deed before his death. He reveals that he wasn't close to Kenjaku and was just a spectator in the Culling Game. Megumi doesn't understand why his opponent would help him but Reggie has a hunch that things will be more interesting this way. In return, he asks his executioner to let fate toy with him before he dies like a fool. Reggie bleeds out and Megumi's Kogane tells him that he's earned five more points.[6]
