Maki Zenin vs. Kasumi Miwa is a battle fought between Tokyo Jujutsu High second-year student Maki Zenin and Kyoto Jujutsu High second-year student Kasumi Miwa during the Spirit Bash Race competition of the 30th Annual Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event.

Prologue

After Aoi forces his teammates to stop their ambush on Yuji and retreat, Mechamaru and Mai break off from Noritoshi and Kasumi. Suddenly, Maki and Megumi appear to confront them both, waiting for this exact moment.

Maki takes Kasumi by surprise.

Maki waits behind a tree and swings her staff at Kasumi after Noritoshi has already passed by. Kasumi is able to parry it while her sword is still in its sheath and then force Maki back.

They notice a loud yell from Aoi in the distance slightly interrupting them. Maki uses the opportunity to ask Kasumi why she split off with Noritoshi.

Kasumi knows that multiple sorcerers pay attention to the Goodwill Event and she wants to perform well in order to get promoted. As Kasumi draws her katana, she declares that she needs to win and rank up so she can make more money and provide for her poor family.

Concerned, Maki asks if Kasumi is okay and if she gets along with Mai. In response, Kasumi takes her stance, claiming she doesn't need her opponent's pity.

Battle

Kasumi prepares her Simple Domain.

While engaging with Maki's incredibly quick and adept polearm skills, Kasumi realizes her opponent is crazy powerful. Mai had informed her that Maki was weak, but Kasumi believes Mai is a fool for even suggesting that.

Maki disarms Kasumi using Aikido.

Kasumi knows she needs to get in close against an enemy with a long weapon, but she can barely keep herself alive defending. Maki swings the spear in a 360 motion, unleashing a slash that Miwa barely guards with the side of her blade, leaving her shocked. If this had been a real fight and Maki left the blade exposed, Kasumi would have died twice already. Up against Maki, Kasumi realizes that she's easily at least a Grade 2 sorcerer.

In order to gain some ground, Kasumi steps back and activates New Shadow Style: Simple Domain. In order to counter Batto Sword Drawing, Maki breaks her own spear and throws it at Kasumi. The Kyoto second-year deflects the broken spear but is nearly hit by an unexpected kunai. Using the hidden weapons to close the gap, Maki gets in close and uses aikido to throw and disarm Kasumi of her sword.

Aftermath

Harmless without her weapon, Kasumi gets left behind by Maki, who goes after her twin sister Mai instead. She uses Kasumi's sword in the ensuing battle while the defenseless girl is put to sleep by a phone call from Toge who is disguised as Mechamaru.
