The Shibuya Incident - Gate Closed (渋谷事変 閉門 Shibuya Jihen Heimon?) is the forty-seventh episode of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime adaptation and the twenty-third and final episode of the second season.

Summary

As the Shibuya Incident finally comes to an end, Pseudo-Geto and Yuki Tsukumo disagree on the role cursed energy will play in the evolution of humanity. Pseudo-Geto explains his plans for the world of the future, a return to an era that reflects the Heian and the height of cursed techniques.

Plot Details

Yuki suggests breaking away from cursed energy (Anime)

"The next stage of humanity lies in breaking away from cursed energy."

Yuki asks Pseudo-Geto if he still remembers their conversation from twelve years ago about finding a way to make cursed spirits disappear from the world, hoping to buy time for Larue to move into position. She believes that the next stage for humans is detaching themselves from cursed energy, while Pseudo-Geto argues that it can only come from optimizing cursed energy. Partially frozen and entirely confused, Yuji has no clue what the two sorcerers are talking about.

Pseudo-Geto states that he thought Yuki abandoned her method when Toji Zenin died. Seeing the stitches on his forehead, Yuki decides to stop discussing the past with Pseudo-Geto and instead points out a major flaw in his plan. Since there are far fewer sorcerers and cursed spirits abroad, optimizing cursed energy through Tengen's barrier would only allow the Japanese to become sorcerers. This would result in Japan having a monopoly on cursed energy, which would lead to an unfavorable reaction from other countries due to living humans becoming energy sources, with the ensuing chaos being far from the ideal world she wishes to create.

Pseudo-Geto laughs and reveals that his goal is completely different from hers, as he does not wish to create a peaceful world nor one without cursed spirits. He sees sorcerers, non-sorcerers, and cursed spirits all as possible forms of cursed energy in the shape of humans. He always believed that there must be more to human potential, which was why he created the Death Painting Wombs as Noritoshi Kamo. However, he realized that his creations are ultimately limited by his own potential, hence why he wishes to unleash chaos he cannot control to achieve his goals.

Remote Activation of Idle Transfiguration (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto activates Idle Transfiguration to manipulate the soul's of people he's marked.

Having already extracted Mahito's innate technique, Pseudo-Geto prepares to activate it. Yuki quickly realizes what the curse user might be trying to do and asks Yuji what happened to the soul-manipulating cursed spirit. Yuji reveals that Pseudo-Geto already absorbed Mahito, much to Yuki's dismay. Pseudo-Geto slams his palm on the ground, creating a giant purple seal marking on the ground that rises into the sky. Yuki initially thought something happened to Tengen's barrier, before realizing that Pseudo-Geto was remotely activating a cursed technique.

Pseudo-Geto thanks Yuji for helping Mahito reach his potential before he was absorbed via Cursed Spirit Manipulation, as the cursed techniques he extracts from curses stop improving upon absorption, though he regrets not being able to absorb Jogo. Yuki asks what he's done and the curse user reveals he used Idle Transfiguration on two different types of people who have already been marked with the same seal he just cast. The first type of non-sorcerers marked are people he had ingest cursed objects similar to how Yuji incarnated Sukuna. The second type are those whose brains were meant to be non-sorcerers like Junpei Yoshino. Using Idle Transfiguration, Pseudo-Geto adjusted their brains to the ones of sorcerers', allowing the latter to develop innate techniques while giving the former strength to become proper vessels.

Tsumiki wakes up (Anime)

As one of the people marked, Tsumiki finally awakens.

Upon undoing a knot, Pseudo-Geto reveals he had just lifted the seal on the cursed objects, allowing them to incarnate through their vessels, some of whom have been unconscious due to his cursed energy. In her hospital room, Tsumiki Fushiguro awakens as the seal marking appears on her forehead. Pseudo-Geto intends to have his chosen sorcerers kill each other and deepen their understanding of cursed energy, comparable to releasing a thousand malicious Yujis. Yuki finds it hard to believe that a thousand people would willingly kill others upon being granted powers, but Pseudo-Geto ensures her that he would not make such an oversight before pointing out that her questions are straying from the topic. Annoyed, Yuki asks Yuji to help her beat up Pseudo-Geto, but the student is unable to as he is still frozen in place.

Suddenly, all the ice melts as Uraume collapses to the ground, freeing Yuji and everyone else. Pseudo-Geto asks Uraume what's the matter, with the latter realizing that they have been poisoned. Choso reveals that his poisonous blood must be the reason, as Uraume was hit by his Piercing Blood earlier. Momo Nishimiya suggests that there are more enemies since Mai Zenin hasn't supported them since her sniper shot, though Yuki assures her that Mai, Aoi Todo, and Arata Nitta are currently protected by her companion. Now freed, Panda and Noritoshi Kamo also prepare to join the fight. In contrast, Atsuya Kusakabe lays on the ground, tired and discouraged.

Pseudo-Geto shows Prison Realm to Yuji (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto escapes with Prison Realm and declares the future will reflect the World of the Heian.

Despite the interruptions, Pseudo-Geto continues his speech and reveals that the cursed objects he had the non-sorcerers ingest were created from sorcerers he made vows with since a thousand years ago, which became null when he obtained Suguru Geto's body. Yuki understands the implications of this just as Pseudo-Geto announces that this is the world of the future, summoning several cursed spirits to assist his escape. Deliberately taunting Yuji by showing him the Prison Realm, Pseudo-Geto says he expects much from the first-year before asking if Sukuna is listening as he declares that the Heian Era, the golden age of jujutsu sorcery has returned.

A few days after the Shibuya Incident, news reports on the event reach the ears of non-sorcerers, many of whom are unconcerned or skeptical about it, believing it to be the result of a terrorist attack or natural disaster. Meanwhile, Jujutsu Headquarters evaluates the situation, revealing that the 23 wards have been almost completely destroyed, as more than ten million cursed spirits were estimated to have been released. The condition of the Prime Minister's deputies are also unknown, creating a political vacuum. The headquarters plans to evacuate the five million residents within the affected area, but struggles to think of how to explain the situation to the public, especially since they themselves don't know the cause. With the revelation that only rural towns and villages have yet to be overran by cursed spirits, a member of the headquarters proposes that they list the entire metropolitan area as a prohibited area.

Void created by the Shibuya Incident (Anime)

The destruction of the twenty-three wards leaves a void in Tokyo.

With sorcerers having their hands full protecting evacuees in the area, a member fears that the power vacuum could cause a foreign military intervention. Just then, a member of the board receives a call and proceeds to inform the others of the higher-up's decision: they are to disclose the existence of cursed spirits to the public but declare that they only appear in Tokyo in order to draw cursed energy to the city, and contain curses to the area by expanding the barriers on the Imperial Palace and above the Tombs of the Star to the prefectural boundaries.

Yuta saves a civilian from a Cursed Spirit (Anime)

Yuta Okkotsu enters the scene.

In a convenience store in Shibuya, a young girl scavenges for food. She suddenly spots an eerie figure in the doorway telling her to come out and that it's dangerous. It attempts to lure her out with the promise of hot baths and seeing her relatives. Confused, the girl asks if the person wants a drink, which they accept. As the girl runs outside the store, it is revealed that the figure was a human being used as a decoy by a giant curse with razor-sharp teeth that opens its mouth and is about to devour her. Leaping down from above, Yuta Okkotsu suddenly appears and stabs the cursed spirit in the head with his katana, defeating it and saving the girl.

With a friendly attitude, Yuta makes sure that the girl isn't hurt before praising her for her efforts, noticing her worn-out shoes that suggest she walked a great distance to the commercial district. Still alive, the severely injured curse struggles to eat Yuta while he is not looking, only to be violently thrown and splattered against a building. The girl notices and tries to look at the aftermath, but Yuta covers her eyes from the carnage and scolds Rika for overdoing it.

In a flashback, Yuki was talking with someone and apologized for not making a move sooner, saying that she was planning on playing the long game. She coyly remarked that she was not necessarily on their side, as she only wanted to rid the world of cursed spirits, before adding that she and her comrades will take responsibility for sending back the kids who were present. As she revealed that she plans to confront Tengen, she asked Yuji what he planned to do.

Consequences of the Shibuya Incident (Anime)

The notices from the higher-ups.

Later, Yuta meets with the higher-ups who insincerely praise his efforts. He bluntly asks if him killing cursed spirits is enough to prove that he will obey their orders, which is not. Yuta then asks if he should enter into a binding vow with the higher-ups to further prove his loyalty before declaring his resolve to personally kill Yuji for cutting off Inumaki's arm, even if he is Gojo's student.

Five notices are subsequently made known by the higher-ups. First, Suguru Geto is confirmed to be alive and his death penalty is reinstated. Second, Gojo is considered a co-conspirator in the Shibuya Incident and has been permanently exiled from the jujutsu society. Unsealing him will be considered a criminal act. Third, Masamichi Yaga is to be executed for inciting Gojo and Geto and causing the Shibuya Incident. Fourth, Yuji's execution will resume and be carried out immediately. Lastly, Yuta is appointed as Yuji's executioner.

At the crack of dawn, Yuji walks on a bridge while guiding himself with a flashlight. Arriving at its center, Yuji turns off his flashlight and waits until the sun rises. Raising his hands into the air, Yuji claps them together. Seconds later, several large cursed spirits burst out from the water under the bridge.
