The Shibuya Incident - Gate Open (渋谷事変 開門 Shibuya Jihen Kaimon?) is the thirty-third episode of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime adaptation and the ninth episode of the second season.
Summary
The cursed spirits put Geto's plan into action by trapping Satoru Gojo underground and surrounding him with civilians that only serve to get in his way. Even with the chaos stifling his ability to fight at full power, Gojo displays precisely why he's the strongest.
Plot Details
At some point in the past, Satoru Gojo's associates were asked what they knew about him. They give widely different answers including that he's a teacher, a benefactor, and an idiot. Even with varying answers, everyone agrees that Satoru Gojo is undoubtedly the strongest.
In the present, on October 31st, Gojo faces off with Jogo and Hanami on the Fukutoshin Platform in BF5 of the Hikarie Building in Shibuya. Gojo has removed his blindfold and tells Hanami they're going to die first because he's met them twice already. He openly challenges the cursed spirits to make the next move. He reminds them that they were the ones who told him not to run and fearlessly steps up between his opponents. This provokes Jogo and Hanami to attack but the former is surprised when Gojo touches him to parry his punch. Gojo flips Jogo over his back and avoids Hanami's attack before ripping Jogo's arm off completely. He then uses the severed flesh to absorb the impact of Hanami's follow-up punch and kicks them across the station. He throws Jogo over to join them shortly after and Hanami realizes that Gojo has deactivated the Limitless.
Hanami takes Gojo's statement about killing them first as a misdirection because he's targetting and chasing after Jogo. Believing there's no point in getting the crowd involved, Hanami decides to activate their cursed technique. Hanami doesn't realize they've made a fatal mistake, but Jogo does. While fleeing from Gojo, Jogo turns around to yell and warn Hanami not to deactivate domain amplification. This was Gojo's plan all along, to bait Hanami into activating their innate technique because it's impossible to activate it and domain amplification simultaneously. Gojo turns around with a devious smile on his face and rushes over to Hanami, grabbing onto the branches coming out of their face. Gojo reveals someone told him this was Hanami's weak spot and proceeds to brutally rip the roots completely out of Hanami's body. Jogo commends Gojo for being this powerful even without his cursed technique while Choso tries to hit him with Piercing Blood, only for it to be deflected by a reactivated Infinity. Gojo recognizes that Choso is a Death Painting Womb and decides to leave him for later since he's not as proactive as the others.
Jogo and Hanami attack Gojo again, attempting to use domain amplification to neutralize the Limitless. Gojo warns them that this is a bad idea because he can counter by strengthening his cursed technique and Hanami might not be up to the task. He expands the range of the Infinity and targets Hanami, pinning them against the wall. Jogo tries to threaten the lives of civilians to get Gojo's attention, but he completely ignores it. The sorcerer effortlessly crushes Hanami into dust against the wall, exorcising them right before Jogo's eyes. Without a moment's hesitation, Satoru turns around and asks who's next.
Geto's plan to seal Gojo requires that the cursed spirits keep him in range of Prison Realm for at least one minute. Jogo originally protested this impossible task and threatened to burn Geto, but the curse user assured him things would be fine. Currently, Jogo refuses to let Hanami's death be in vain and focuses on surviving. He uses hit-and-run tactics while throwing humans at Gojo to distract him. He also demands Choso help out or he'll be the first to die. Choso begrudgingly agrees and sends more blood at Satoru, only for it to be deflected again. With Jogo on the run, Gojo knows he's already played his hand by luring the cursed spirits out and exorcising them up close. The worst-case scenario would be for his opponents to launch a wide-range attack on the crowd. Gojo acknowledges that he won't be able to save everyone, but he swears to exorcise the curses to avenge the fallen without fail.
At Meiji-Jingumae Station, Yuji finds a lone civilian in B5F. They reveal that everyone on this level was turned into monsters and put on the train. They were only left because the train couldn't fit anymore. Shortly after their claims, the non-sorcerer is transfigured and dies in front of Yuji, forcing him to realize that Mahito is on a train full of transfigured humans headed straight for Gojo. The train arrives on the Fukutoshin Line Platform and transfigured humans spill out and attack the crowd. Mahito gets off the train and tells Jogo they'll have plenty of humans to hunt after the incident. He playfully tells Jogo they can hunt them in the forest and the latter asks to simply burn the forest down. Mahito reminds him that Hanami would be upset but Jogo reveals that their ally has been killed.
Mahito attacks Gojo and experiences the Infinity firsthand. He avoids Gojo's counter-attack and decides to share something he finds disgusting about humans: there are far too many of them. Right on cue, Hanami's roots break apart and numerous humans fall through the atrium into B5F, creating even more panic. Mahito and Choso add to the chaos by launching a widespread attack on the crowd, killing several civilians all around Gojo. The cursed spirits know Gojo is capable of being cold-hearted, unlike Yuji Itadori. They believe his willingness to make sacrifices only extends to humans killed by curses, meaning he won't kill any civilians by opening his domain. Gojo's best option is to sacrifice everyone on B5F to exorcise the cursed spirits and save everyone else in Shibuya. Mahito, Choso, and Jogo are totally surprised when Gojo does just that and uses domain expansion: Unlimited Void.
However, instead of forsaking the civilians, Gojo only opens his domain for 0.2 seconds. It was just a guess, but Gojo estimated this was the longest amount of time a non-sorcerer could withstand being inside his domain without suffering permanent damage. This all-or-nothing domain expansion paralyzes everyone on B5F but the special grades could awaken at any moment. Due to this, Gojo prioritizes the transfigured humans and destroys all one thousand of them in just 299 seconds. After running around at incredible speeds to dismember the monsters, Gojo is exhausted and is forced to take several deep breaths. Deciding this is the perfect time to make his move, Prison Realm appears behind Gojo.
Prison Realm opens and Gojo meets his gaze. Before he can run, Geto reveals himself and deeply confuses Gojo. This is Gojo's best friend, the man he killed with his very own hands almost a year ago. His Six Eyes tell him that this is Geto, and years of memories flood his brain. The minute required for the seal to activate is simply a minute's worth of time in Gojo's hyperaccelerated brain. Prison Realm takes hold and ensnares Gojo before he can properly react. Unable to move or access his cursed energy, Gojo knows he messed up and that this is checkmate.
Gojo still demands to know who this person is because he knows in his heart that his best friend is gone. Pseudo-Geto reveals himself to be an imposter who switched out Suguru Geto's brain with his own using a cursed technique. Gojo warns him that Yuta Okkotsu was the one who defeated Geto, but the imposter doesn't see what's so special about Yuta. He believes that the young man lost his abilities after freeing Rika's soul and claims he cannot be the next Satoru Gojo.
Meanwhile, down the Fukutoshin Line all the way back to Harajuku, Yuji realizes that a communication created by Mechamaru has been attached to his ear. He tells Yuji to listen closely and reveals that Satoru Gojo has been sealed.
