Cursed Energy Discharge (
Description
As the name implies, this straightforward technique allows the user to discharge directed beams of compressed cursed energy like a cannon. The blasts must be charged in order to concentrate the cursed energy into a single point before firing. The strength of the outputted blast depends on how much its been built up and the beams can take several forms depending on the user's desires. For example, cursed energy can be fired as a full power blast capable of decimating several city blocks, or a volley of rapid fire blasts to barrage the user's target.
Usage
Ryu Ishigori possesses the highest cursed energy output of any jujutsu sorcerer, likely related to his innate technique. He has pompedour styled hair shaped like a cannon with a distinct hole in the front. He fires cursed energy directly from his hair, keeping his hands completely free while charging and firing. He generally attacks using his signature technique, Granite Blast, which is a full power beam of directed cursed energy.
Ryu first used his technique to interrupt Yuta Okkotsu's fight with Takako Uro in the Sendai Colony.[1] Ryu tested Yuta's combat skills by shooting a volley of several beams at the young sorcerer. Yuta was able to avoid the initial barrage with his agility, but appeared to be taken off guard when even more blasts rained down from above. Yuta was able to avoid that as well, surprising Ryu.[2] During a close combat exchange, Ryu sent Yuta flying and got him back within range. Ryu capitalized on his reeling opponent by firing a weaker version of Granite Blast that Yuta was able to block with one hand.[3] Yuta then counterattacked with a powerful punch, but Ryu was able to defend himself and repel Yuta using another blast of cursed energy.[4]
When Uro also targetted Yuta, Ryu tried to stop her from interfering by blasting her as well. However, Uro used her ability to manipulate space to redirect the beam right back at him. After being hit, Ryu himself admitted that his attack packs quite a punch.[5] When faced with Yuta's full power, Ryu attempted to blast him but the highly resilent Rika deflected it with a single hand as well.[6]
After all three fighters used domain expansion, Ryu was still capable of outputting directed blasts of cursed energy. Activating his domain technically made Ryu's innate technique unusable, but he is the only sorcerer capable of releasing the same amount of power regardless of if his technique is activated. This gave him a clear advantage over the others, allowing him to easily defeat Uro with a single shot.[7] However, she survived because the destructive forced of his blast was weakened following domain expansion.[8]
In the climax of his fight with Yuta, Ryu and his opponent both clashed directed beams of cursed energy. Yuta's beam was quickly overpowered as it was slightly weaker than Ryu's at maximum power.[9] Yuta survived and Ryu tried to finish him off with another Granite Blast, but Yuta's innate technique recovered from domain expansion and he redirected the beam by copying Uro's technique. This ultimately spelled Ryu's defeat, as the blast was directed back down at him and landed a direct hit on the unsuspecting sorcerer.[10]
