Colonies |
The Culling Game Colonies are ten large areas of Japan that were isolated by massive barriers on November 1, 2018. The colonies host the Culling Game competition and their geography forms a line down Japan. They serve as the primary settings for the Culling Game Arc.
Description

Tokyo Colony No. 1 and 2 viewed from the outside.
The ten colonies across Japan are sealed off by barriers that connect to one another and form a line directly down the archipelago. Each barrier is named after the area they cover (e.g. the Sendai Colony) and they are meant to serve as battlegrounds for players to freely fight and kill one another to score points. The purpose of this setup is to send Japanese people to "the other side" once the Culling Game has been completed. This does not include Hokkaido in the north because of the Jujutsu Society and its status as a vast sacred zone.
Non-players inside the barriers at the start of the Culling Game were given one chance to exit. Players who begin inside the barriers were not given that same choice and were forced to remain inside. Any non-player who enters a barrier is greeted by a Kogane and asked if they would like to participate in the deadly competition. If they agree, they become a player and are granted permission to enter the barrier. Upon entry, players are randomly transported to one of nine predetermined locations within the colony.
There was no initial rule about entering or exiting barriers at the start of the event. Players were given the objective to try and exit the barriers as a way to properly stimulate competition between them. In order for the barriers to be strong enough to confine all the players, they're reinforced by a vow relying on the premise that players participate in the game of their own free will.
History
Kenjaku created the colonies using bon barriers, taking advantage of Tengen's pure barriers as their foundation. He knew that destroying the pure barriers wasn't an option the jujutsu sorcerers would consider.[1]
The colonies were established immediately following the Shibuya Incident. Non-players inside the barrier were given the chance to exit. All players inside the barrier had to remain there and any player outside the barrier needed to enter or they would die per the rules of the game. Any outsiders who entered the colonies were given a choice to participate in the game by a Kogane.[2]
The colonies served as the battleground of the Culling Game between November 1st and December 24th. The sorcerers of Jujutsu High enacted their plan to combat the Culling Game on November 12th, entering different colonies in groups. Foreign military forces invaded the country to abduct players in the middle of the night of the 14th.[3] On the 16th, Yorozu added a rule to the game that allowed players to freely enter and exit colony borders.[4]
