The Shibuya Incident, Part 17 ( (しぶ) () () (へん) Shibuya Jihen 17?) is the ninety-ninth chapter of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen.

Summary

With a lack of information and no way to communicate inside the curtain, the Zenin Team splits up and tries to locate Ijichi. Nobara and Akari encounter Haruta Shigemo on the way, and he's surprisingly powerful. Shigemo's unusual cursed technique gets the better of the girls. Just when it seems Shigemo will take another victim, Nanami arrives to put an end to his reign of terror.

Plot Details

Nobara deflects Shigemo's sword

Nobara takes on the curse user alone.

Returning from taking Ijichi to safety, Nanami tells himself that he never has and never will be frustrated by his own uselessness. He feels that he's just living in the face of all the evils of the world. He thinks about Haibara and Ijichi and asks how dare the enemy do this.

Meanwhile, the Zenin Team fights against transfigured humans inside Shibuya Station. Akari Nitta notifies them that it sounds like Ijichi was attacked while they were talking on the phone.

Maki tells Nobara and Akari to go check on Ijichi while she stays with the lazy old man Zenin. The curtain blocks cell phone reception, so the assistant managers are critical for the jujutsu sorcerers. Maki doesn't ever believe Satoru Gojo would lose but she's getting a bad feeling about the situation.

Shigemo's sword tracks Akari

Shigemo discovers Akari trying to run away.

While on their way, Nobara and Akari are confronted by the curse user Haruta Shigemo on Shoto Bunkamura Street. He's happy to finally run into a girl after taking out so many male managers. Nobara believes that Shigemo is the one who attacked Ijichi and she asks Nitta to pretend to hide in the subway entrance while escaping through another.

Shigemo interrupts their whispering by throwing his sword at Nobara. She deflects it with her hammer and charges at him, confident that he's a mid-range fighter. He avoids her hammer and asks if they've met before. Nobara remembers him but she denies it.

Shigemo's sword punches Nobara

Shigemo's sword lands a clean shot straight to Nobara's jaw.

Suddenly, Shigemo somehow finds out that Akari's not actually hiding. As Akari runs through the station, she passes by Shigemo's hand sword cursed tool hanging off of a wall without noticing it. This leads Shigemo right to her location where he runs up to her after she's already been attacked by the sword.

The curse user delivers a soccer kick to the manager's sternum, upsetting Nobara and injuring Akari. Nobara tries to stop him but the sword suddenly falls into Shigemo's hand, allowing him to slash Nobara's lead leg and leave a shallow cut. The cut brings Nobara's attention to her lower body, allowing Shigemo to attack her upper body. His sword to land a fierce right hook right to her jaw, leaving Nobara extremely dazed.

Nanami glares at Shigemo

Nanami arrives in time to stop the curse user.

Nobara loses balance in her legs and falls to her knees. The first-year student can't believe how perfectly her opponent keeps landing his shots. Shigemo asks Nobara if she's concussed, kneeling over to talk to her in a taunting matter. He claims that she's gotten a lot stronger since they last met but it doesn't matter in the face of his uncanny cursed technique. Shigemo glances over at his sword and insists that he isn't sure what his technique is all about either.

Nobara tries to buy time by asking Shigemo about his motivations. However, he doesn't have any convictions and kills simply because it's fun for him. He cuts Akari while she's on the ground, angering Nobara. She tells him to stop and he replies mockingly by asking her to make him stop. Nobara stumbles back to her feet determined to save Akari. Just as Shigemo prepares to finish her off, they both detect a powerful presence.

Nanami walks into the substation and immediately glares at the curse user with a very less than happy expression on his face. Shigemo notices Nanami's attire and wonders if he's supposed to kill non-black suits too.

The stuff on the bonus pages of volume 10 about jujutsu sorcerers being distant is kind of hilarious when you think about what Gojo says.
