From Now On (これから Kore Kara?) is the two hundred and seventy-first and final chapter of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen.

Summary

Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara go on a mission to stop a curse user who's harassing civilians. Upon completing their mission Yuji recalls one of his final conversations with his sensei. Satoru Gojo's dream has been achieved. His strong, intelligent allies will protect the jujutsu world from now on.

Plot Details

After examining Fukuzawa's fiancée, Nobara finds no cursed seals or cursed technique markings on the woman, suspecting that the perpetrator, if they are not a cursed spirit or using their cursed technique remotely, is nearby. Yuji speculates that they are within the range of the culprit's cursed technique, which Megumi agrees with while finding the matter troublesome, since that means the technique is covert or the curse user has skilled control over their cursed energy.

Nobara then asks Fukuzawa's fiancée if her boyfriend's face ever returned to normal, to which she answers that it hasn't, or it may have when she was asleep. With that assumption, Megumi hypothesizes that the technique's range is 50 meters, 100 to be safe. Yuji wonders how they could find the perpetrator since they are in the middle of town. Megumi agrees that there are too many people, buildings and blindspots around them, but believes they can notice when the technique is reactivated if they find a good vantage point.

Yuji proposes that they lure the perpetrator to an open area, which Megumi soundly rejects since only an idiot would just follow them wherever. Nobara then suggests that they have Yuji take Fukuzawa's girlfriend out of the technique's range, which Megumi also rejects since the perp would not immediately come out of hiding and follow them, and could easily wait until the sorcerers leave to resume activity. Yuji then comes up with the idea of sending the couple away on a car, which is once again dismissed by Megumi since the perpetrator could be tracking the woman with their cursed technique while the three of them can only rely on their eyes. Yuji argues that they could locate the curse user when they reactivate their technique once the couple returns, but Megumi notes that that would give the culprit the initiative instead since they could choose when to use their technique.

Angry at Megumi for dismissing all of their ideas, Yuji and Nobara ask him for a plan. Megumi echoes the plan to get the girlfriend outside the cursed technique's range and take down the culprit once the technique reactivates, with his idea involving a 40-floor condominium that is over 150 meters aboveground. His plan is to have the couple escape the technique's area by pretending to go visit their friend and reaching the top floor through the elevator. While Ijichi and a window watch the entrance and buzzer, the first-years will each find a good lookout point and watch for the perp to restart their technique, effectively luring them out into the open.

The plan is put into action, and as the couple reach the 40th floor, the girlfriend tells the students over her phone that her boyfriend's face returned to normal. Immediately, the first-years sense the activation of a cursed technique, with Nobara noticing a masked man standing on a building nearby. Realizing that he is the curse user, Nobara informs the others and jumps down towards the man. At the same time, Yuji arrives and the two prepare to apprehend the curse user. Suddenly, Yuji and Nobara both notice each other's eyes being comically enlarged, shocking and distracting them. As the curse user flees, he is suddenly intercepted by Megumi and Divine Dog: Totality, who successfully capture him.

Some time after reprimanding his classmates, Megumi brings the curse user to the girlfriend and asks if she recognizes him. When she says she doesn't, the man angrily reveals that he bought the woman's bag, causing her to remember. It is later revealed that the man was her customer at a cabaret club, and held a grudge against her when she forgot about him after he bought her the expensive bag. Seeing the dejected man about to be sent away, Yuji approaches him and assures him that he won't be executed for his crime. The man is remorseful, feeling guilty for not properly conveying his affection to the woman and instead blaming her.

When they were preparing for the showdown against Sukuna, Yuji approached Gojo after undergoing replacement training with Kusakabe, wanting to do it with him next. Gojo is reluctant, admitting that he wants his students to carry on his wish and dream if he dies, and grow and surpass him in their own way instead of trying to mimic him. Gojo's seemingly unconfident behavior confuses Yuji, but Gojo assures him that he has never been more sure of himself before stating that he trusts Yuji to carry out his will. Remembering this interaction, Yuji assures the former curse user that he will be fine since he acknowledged his own shortcomings, and says that he looks forward to working with him once he atones. Afterwards, Nobara inquires about the whereabouts of Sukuna's last finger, to which Yuji answers that he got rid of it. In response to her surprise, Yuji assures Nobara that the cursed object is not dangerous anymore and is the perfect talisman against curses. Staring at his left hand that is missing fingers, Yuji is certain that it will be alright.

Sukuna's last finger unsealed

Sukuna's last finger is left unsealed.

At the passageway for the circulation of souls, Mahito greets Sukuna, surprised that he died. After explaining how his cursed technique allowed him to linger there, Mahito asks Sukuna if he was lying when he said he was living only as befits his nature. Mahito speculates that Sukuna lived for the sake of revenge against those who scorned him for his abnormality. Sukuna believes that is exactly what befit his nature as a cursed and unwanted wretch, before realizing that he did have a choice for how to live. To be precise, he had two choices, represented by a young Uraume and another unknown person. The reason he chose a life of revenge and vomiting out the curse within himself was because he feared his own curse would immolate himself, but now that he has a second chance, he wants to choose a different path. As Sukuna walks down the path with a crying Uraume, Mahito criticizes him for wanting to settle down, finding it boring. However, Sukuna is content with his choice, admitting that he has lost. A furious and sulking Mahito is then left fuming by himself.

As the students of Tokyo Jujutsu High happily head out for their missions, in a thermometer shed somewhere, the last finger of Ryomen Sukuna lies in its opened box, its curse no longer sealed away.
