Considerations ( (けん) (とう) Kentō?) is the two hundred and sixty-ninth chapter of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen.

Summary

Yuta returns to his body but has to answer to Maki for his role in the raid. This leads to the jujutsu sorcerers discussing the end of the Shinjuku Showdown and the current state of the New Shadow Style.

Plot Details

At some point in time, Mei Mei enters a candy store and asks the elderly shopkeeper what the price of a candy bar is.

In the present, Maki chews out Yuta, who has miraculously returned to his original body. Yuji, Megumi and Nobara then enter the room, with Megumi wanting to apologize to everyone, though his apology is dismissed by Maki. Yuji also wants to apologize to the others, but is interrupted by Kusakabe who states that the fault lies in Gojo who didn't kill Yuji, and Kenjaku who used Yuji for jujutsu terrorism. Despite his past opinions, Kusakabe affirms the first-years that only the adults were to blame for what transpired, not them.

Yuji asks Yuta how he managed to return to his body. Yuta reveals that after he transplanted his brain into Gojo's body, Rika sustained his body using reverse cursed technique. As a result, when Kenjaku's burnt-out cursed technique recovered, a near-death Yuta was able to reconnect with Rika, his external storage for cursed techniques, and survive by returning to his body. Kusakabe speculates that Kenjaku divided his cursed techniques using barrier techniques, allowing his brain transplant technique to continue functioning after using a domain.

Maki chastises Yuta for his actions during the fight, believing the sorcerers could have won more easily if she ambushed Kenjaku in the Lake Gosho Colony and Higuruma carried a recording of Toge's Cursed Speech. Since it isn't possible to activate multiple instances of cursed speech, only one voice recording would have usable. Todo refutes her suggestion, stating that he wouldn't have been able to target Maki with Boogie Woogie, which was vital for the sneak attack to succeed. Furthermore, Yuta and Rika were also necessary to stop the rampaging cursed spirits released by Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Speaking for Toge and corroborating Todo, Panda states that the backlash from cursed speech would have killed Inumaki if Sukuna was subjected to it in better condition.

Higuruma, alive but with a broken arm, interjects by saying that Sukuna would have killed him if Yuta was around. He reveals that it was his decision to use Toge's recording inside Yuta's domain instead of his since Deadly Sentencing forbids all acts of violence. Kusakabe is amazed that Higuruma, who has been a sorcerer for only two months survived, though the latter believes it is unfortunate that he did. Meanwhile, Maki continues her scolding, stating that the fight would have been different if Miguel and Larue joined from the start. Everyone unanimously agrees, with Yuta desperately explaining that the two said they wouldn't help, even though they did.

Yuji tries to defuse the argument, stating that Yuta prevented Sukuna's second domain expansion and his cursed tool helped hide his fingers, to no avail. Hakari joins in, saying that being able to wait inside Rika allowed the sorcerers to quickly attack after Gojo's loss and let him draw away Uraume. Todo and Ino both feel responsible for not saving Choso, though Yuji assures them that he would have died had Choso not stayed to save him. Maki ultimately relents on her scolding of Yuta, to Toge and Panda's amusement.

Meanwhile, Miwa voices how scared she was acting as Maki's marker and domain counter, while Momo and Hakari voice their regrets for not participating in the battle against Sukuna. Ui Ui declares himself as the MVP of the battle, much to Kirara's chagrin since he left them during the battle. After Ui Ui's comments on their weight leads to a scuffle, Kusakabe comments on how Mei Mei had an easier job, which Ui Ui refutes since his older sister had to take care of the New Shadow Style issue. Mei Mei admits that she had it easy since she wouldn't bet on something she couldn't exchange for money, which is her own life.

Hakari inquires about the New Shadow Style issue, asking if it was about the binding vow that forbade Simple Domain from being taught to outsiders. Kusakabe confirms so, explaining that Simple Domain's inventor Sadatsuna Ashiya created a binding vow that restricted its usage to the school's disciples to prevent curse users from learning it. Mei Mei adds on that New Shadow Style has long lost interest from the public, so Simple Domain is more of a trade secret now. As a result, the school monopolizes the technique and enforces the binding vow on invited disciples, particularly sorcerers without techniques who are dependent on New Shadow Style.

When asked why the binding vow was unreasonable, Mei Mei explains that among other complications, a student couldn't refuse summons to action from the school's head. A particularly troublesome part of the binding vow, more akin to a curse, supposedly allows the head to absorb the lifespans of the disciples. However, this can't be confirmed since no one knows who the head is, or how the contract is fulfilled since some disciples were able to live long lives. Even if the head were to die and the senior disciple inherits the position, their identity will remain unknown. Kusakabe explains that only the head of New Shadow Style can undo the binding vows before revealing that he is the current head and has already undone them. Ui Ui asks Kusakabe to leave some perks for the new disciples, with Mei Mei suggesting that he collect monthly fees from the disciples when he becomes the head.

When she confronted the shopkeeper, Mei Mei clarified that she was asking for the price of their life. The elder asked how she managed to find them and discover their identity as the New Shadow Style head. Mei Mei teasingly replied that she asked someone who knew, before exposing the head's plan to increase their number of disciples in order to rival the Big Three Families, eventually control the Jujutsu Headquarters and take over the jujutsu world. The head realized that Tengen was the one who informed Mei Mei. The grade 1 sorcerer then said that the lifespan-absorbing binding vow suggested the head had ambitions to achieve a long-term goal, which may come to fruition now that the Zenin Clan was ruined and the Kamo Clan and Gojo Clan may fall in the final battle. However, to Mei Mei, anything more important than money can't be protected without it. If it weren't for the New Shadow Style's exclusive control of Simple Domain, some sorcerers would still be alive. For the crime of endangering her little brother, the head pays Mei Mei with their life.

I’ve never created a final chapter, so even though it’s the end, it feels fresh.
