Settling Matters (
Summary
At long last, Sukuna falls. In the aftermath, Uraume concedes defeat and Megumi finally reunites with his allies. Despite the triumph, there are still trials and tribulations for the jujutsu sorcerers overcome.
Plot Details
Inside of Megumi's mind, Sukuna berates the sorcerer for his wrongs, such as killing his own sister and saving Yuji who would later kill several other people. Blaming Megumi for these crimes, Sukuna states that he would never be able to live a normal life, and demands him to give up and let himself be used by the King of Curses. Megumi realizes that Sukuna is desperate and afraid of dying, as the resonance between Sukuna's fingers would prevent the last finger from carrying Sukuna's soul when Yuji tears him away from Megumi, which would cause the other nineteen to disappear. As Sukuna's visage withers away, Megumi states that he doesn't intend to live a normal life going forward, as he wants to try living for someone else's sake instead of his own.
The barrier for Yuji's domain shatters apart as the sorcerer punches Megumi's body out of Sukuna. The grotesque remains of Sukuna desperately try to grab onto Megumi, but fall short and begin to erode away. Panting, Sukuna looks up and finds Yuji staring down at him, the latter once again offering him the option to repossess his body. Kneeling down and holding Sukuna in his hands, Yuji admits that Sukuna is himself. Everyone is born into the world bearing curses, but whether one became a monster or not because of it was up to luck. Yuji believes he was lucky to have his grandfather guide him, and offers Sukuna the chance to live with him again instead of cursing him. Sukuna adamantly refuses, saying Yuji's name for the first time and telling the boy to not underestimate him, as he is a curse. The little of what remained of the King of Curses then disintegrates into nothing.
Elsewhere in Shinjuku, Uraume and Hakari both notice Sukuna's demise. Accepting defeat, Uraume claims that the sorcerers only won because of Sukuna's weakness from being incarnated cursed object, not their own strength; they were simply lucky for being born a thousand years later. Hakari takes the comment as a compliment, causing Uraume to smirk as the ice around their neck melts, decapitating them.
Some time later, Megumi wakes up in bed. After getting dressed, he walks out and finds Yuji and Nobara preparing to surprise him. With the surprise foiled, the three begin to catch up. Taking out two letters, Yuji explains that he was given these by Shoko, who received them from Gojo. Now that the three of them are together again, he wants them to open the letters. Opening her letter, Nobara expresses her distaste at its contents, which was information on where her mother was and what she was doing. Completely uninterested in the subject, Nobara crumples the letter. Looking at his letter, Megumi begins to laugh, prompting Yuji and Nobara to look at it as well, much to their shock. In the letter, Gojo nonchalantly informs Megumi that he killed his father.
Noticing the time, Nobara tells the boys they need to meet with Maki and the others. Megumi assumes it was so he could apologize to and thank everyone who fought against Sukuna, but Nobara states it was for another matter. Yuji explains that everyone needed to be present in order to save Yuta. As the Jujutsu High sorcerers enter a corridor, the three first-years hear someone cursing Yuta's name, much to Megumi's confusion.
