That Day (あの () Ano Hi?) is the two hundred and sixty-fifth chapter of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen.

Summary

Before their ultimate showdown Yuji tries to appeal to any humanity the King of Curses might have left. Yuji takes Sukuna on a trip down memory lane inside his domain!?

Plot Details

While leaving the train station with Yuji, Sukuna explains that a rare phenomenon occurs during the height of battle between sorcerers that creates a shared imaginary landscape, allowing the sorcerers to bond with each other. He believed this was a side effect of cursed energy since it originated from human emotion. However, the King of Curses feels something odd about his current environment and wonders if it is Yuji's domain instead. Yuji himself is unsure, but asks Sukuna to indulge him as he simply wanted to talk.

Exiting the station, Yuji points out a local statue before explaining that he was born in Sendai City but moved here until he was six or seven years old due to his grandfather's work. After almost ten years, only recently did he return to the town again to attend his grandfather's friend's funeral, and was surprised by how run-down it was. Yuji then wondered if his grandfather's friend would have attended his grandfather's funeral if the latter died first, while Sukuna silently followed him.

Arriving at a park, Yuji reveals that he used to always play in it. As the two pass by some flowers, Yuji calls them morning glories, only for Sukuna to rudely correct him as they are in fact hydrangea. Yuji notes that he only started to notice the flowers after moving to Sendai before wondering who decides what gets planted in public areas. He then asks how Sukuna knew the name of the flowers, to which he answers that he learned them from Megumi Fushiguro's memories. Yuji believes that Sukuna must be familiar with the area if he read his memories, but the curse user denied ever doing so. The two then catch crayfish in the park's pond, with Sukuna's being larger than Yuji's while the latter insists his catch is rarer.

As the duo pass by a department store, Yuji remarks on how it drove the smaller stores out of business, but he was fine with it since it had a movie theater on the top floor. They then journey outside of the town for a place with greenery before heading to a farm where Wasuke sometimes took Yuji to. After commenting on the horses and ice cream there, the two then do some archery, with Sukuna excelling at it due to having experience from the Heian era. Yuji then talks about winter in the town and the one time he mistook snow chains on a car for Santa's bells.

Annoyed by Yuji's monologue, Sukuna interrupts him and demands he state his intentions. Yuji explains his newfound understanding of life. He initially thought that life was about understanding and fulfilling one's role before dying, but he now believes that the value of life lies in the small fragments of memories that are adrift in those who remember the deceased, rather than memories of their image and role. With this new philosophy, Yuji realized that how someone dies didn't matter to him, he just couldn't forgive those who acted as if lives were worthless and humans were tools born with set roles, an idea that Sukuna embodies. Yuji hoped to show Sukuna the life of someone he sees no value in, but Sukuna felt nothing nor cared about the experience.

Yuji laments about not being able to change Sukuna's mind, with the latter remarking him as cowardly. Suddenly, Sukuna comes to the realization that Yuji was pitying him and trying to be merciful and asks him so. Yuji confirms this and threatens to kill Sukuna if he does not free Megumi and return to him. Furious with Yuji's insinuation, Sukuna declares his intention to slaughter everyone Yuji loves in front of him.
