Summary
Black Flash ramps up the voltage for both Yuji and Sukuna. The King of Curses regains an old reliable ability while Yuji and his allies display new techniques. The reason for Yuji's accelerated growth as a sorcerer is...!
Plot Details
While in the awakened state after landing two Black Flashes, Satoru Gojo constructed a unique reverse cursed technique circuit that allowed him to disperse the operation and burden of the technique to different parts of his brain, thereby recovering his reverse cursed technique output. Sukuna intended to do the same and regenerate his hands, but Yuji's rush of seven Black Flashes that struck the boundary of his and Megumi Fushiguro's soul prevented this. Meanwhile, Miguel commends Larue for his efforts before suddenly panicking upon seeing something in the distance.
"The king's domain returns to its master in a shower of black sparks."
Held up by a deformed and demonic figure, Sukuna reactivates Malevolent Shrine! By changing the domain's hand signs and using a part of his brain unaffected by Unlimited Void to apply his cursed technique and barrier technique, the awakening brought about by Black Flash allowed Sukuna to resurrect Malevolent Shrine without decreasing its effective range or output by including uncertain conditions and improvised binding vows. The domain's destruction spreads throughout Shinjuku, collapsing buildings and reducing all living creatures to dust.
While planning their attack on Sukuna, Kinji Hakari asserted that only those who can use reverse cursed technique or countermeasures for a domain should participate, with Maki Zenin being an exception. Choso believed he and Yuji could manage to learn reverse cursed technique, much to the latter's confusion. To answer Yuji's confusion, Choso asked how the three sorcerers capable of using reverse cursed technique compensate for blood loss. Hakari and Yuta did not know the answer as they performed it instinctively, while Shoko correctly answered that they convert cursed energy into blood. She further explained that the reason many sorcerers can use reverse cursed technique on themselves but not on others is due to compatibility, as some receivers may reject the healer's cursed energy or fail to respond to conversion, hence why her treatment's effectiveness varies amongst people.
Upon hearing this, Choso revealed that his unique constitution as a Cursed Womb: Death Painting allowed him to convert cursed energy into blood, and Yuji would likely be able to do the same after absorbing the rest of the Death Paintings, thereby exempting them from the immense cursed energy consumption needed for reverse cursed technique and making it easier for them to learn it. Choso then proposed that someone who can use reverse cursed technique be included in "replacement training", confusing Yuji again.
Ui Ui explained that his cursed technique was the spatial transference of targets, which allowed him to teleport himself and others to places or people he previously marked. He then revealed that his technique also allowed him to swap the souls of people he marked without changing the shape of their bodies, using the analogy of people being boxes and their souls being the boxes' contents. Atsuya Kusakabe stated that Yuji's rapid development as a sorcerer was courtesy of his muscle memory from Sukuna using jujutsu in his body. Using the same concept, through replacement training Kusakabe will swap souls with Yuji and have his body remember the basics of cursed energy manipulation and how to perform Simple Domain. Hakari wondered if the binding vow that prevented Simple Domain from being taught to others outside of the New Shadow Style school would have an effect, though Mei Mei ensured him it would not be a problem. Ui Ui then stated that a person can only swap souls twice per month and asked the sorcerers to choose their pairings wisely.
"Divine Flame! Open!"
In the present, Yuji activates Simple Domain in response to Sukuna's domain expansion, protecting himself from the slashes. Noticing blood oozing out of the demonic figure, Yuji speculates that the domain is incomplete and decides to withstand it. His speculation was correct, as Sukuna is currently incapable of maintaining his high-level open-barrier domain for longer than 99 seconds. At the same time, Takuma Ino and Choso are also enduring through the onslaught of slashes with Simple Domain, while Maki is protected by Kasumi Miwa's. Moments before the domain crumbles, Yuji's Simple Domain is stripped away, causing him to be cut by several slashes and lose his left foot. Reattaching his foot using Blood Manipulation and healing the wound, Yuji is relieved that his fellow sorcerers lasted until the end, only to witness flames roar forth from Sukuna's hand as he chants "Divine Flame! Open!"
