Summary[]
Sukuna is struck by his own fangs! Yuji and Yuta do everything it takes to execute their plan against the King of Curses and make one final push to rescue Megumi.
Plot Details[]
As Yuta cuts Sukuna's face with Cleave, he tells a confused Sukuna that the latter never managed to recover his last finger. As Yuji appears next to Sukuna and punches him in the head, the King of Curses realizes that Yuta had Rika consume the last cursed object in order to copy his cursed technique. As the two jujutsu sorcerers continue their assault on Sukuna, he suddenly grabs Yuji and uses Cleave on his torso, heavily injuring the first-year. Despite his injuries, Yuji spits blood on Sukuna's face, blinding half of his eyes. At the same time, Yuta delivers an uppercut to Sukuna, freeing Yuji from his grasps.
The onslaughts continue and Sukuna's cursed energy output and physical control plummets, forcing him to deactivate Hollow Wicker Basket in an attempt to use the world-cutting Dismantle. Having anticipated this, Rika restrains two of his arms while Yuji grabs ahold of one. Yuta swiftly plunges his hand into the mouth on Sukuna's stomach and rips out his tongue, preventing him from chanting incantations with it.
With his remaining free hand, Sukuna cuts Yuta in the head with Dismantle, the force of which pushes the latter back. Enduring the injuries, Yuta rushes back and slashes Sukuna across the mouth, intent on preventing the King of Curses from performing the cursed chant and hand signs necessary for the slash that cuts the world. Although he is forced back by Sukuna again, Yuta notices that his slashing attacks are weakening and continues to close the gap. Suddenly, Yuji's blood on Sukuna's face splatters, momentarily distracting him, allowing Yuta to cut off his free hand.
When the jujutsu sorcerers were discussing their plans to separate Sukuna from Megumi Fushiguro, Yuji brought up Yuki Tsukumo's notes on the soul that detailed two souls usually only mix to a certain degree, but don't become one. Choso wondered if Yuji and Sukuna were a special case, since he himself could no longer sense the soul of the person he incarnated through. Yuji explained that that is due to the massive difference in cursed energy between a cursed object and a non-sorcerer, and even then Yuki's notes stated that the suppressed soul only sinks deeper, but does not disappear or merge with the incarnated individual's soul.
Choso worried if Megumi's soul had completely merged with Sukuna's due to Yuji's earlier comment. Yuji clarified that he said souls "usually" don't merge because of his knowledge on Mahito's Idle Transfiguration, which was capable of combining and transmogrifying souls in order to create different life forms. So long as that cursed technique wasn't at play, two souls will never become one, and Yuji was confident he could knock Megumi's dormant soul awake with his punches.
Hana Kurusu proposed that the Angel's Technique Extinguishment would be useful for their plan. Hana explained that a fully incarnated sorcerer has their personality directly connected to the cursed object and the cursed technique. While Technique Extinguishment's ability to eradicate cursed techniques can be used to remove Sukuna from Megumi's body, since cursed techniques are enmeshed in the brain, Megumi's chances of survival would be low. However, by separating the two souls and weakening the harmonization between the cursed object and the flesh, his survival rate will skyrocket.
Yuta is cut down by Sukuna!
In the present, as Yuji and Rika restrain Sukuna, Yuta activates Maximum Output: Jacob's Ladder and blasts down a pillar of light on Sukuna, heavily damaging the King of Curses. Yuta seizes the opportunity to stab a katana into the arm Yuji was holding and slices it in half. Yuji then strikes Sukuna with a cursed energy-reinforced punch while telling Megumi to wake up.
Peering inside of Sukuna, Yuji sees the soul of a grovelling Megumi who begs him to stop trying to save him. While Yuji was right about the structure of the soul and the sorcerers' plan had no flaws, Megumi's soul no longer had the will to live. This unexpected oversight gives Sukuna enough time to finish the chant for Dismantle, which he launches at Yuta, cutting through his arm and body. After cutting down Rika and Yuji, Sukuna is seemingly victorious as the domain expansion's barrier shatters. However, he is suddenly stabbed from behind by Maki Zenin, who uses the Split Soul Katana to pierce through his heart.
