The Shibuya Incident, Part 49 (
Summary
Yuji's and Mahito's rivalry comes to a dramatic close when the jujutsu sorcerer lands a fight-ending Black Flash! However, the victory is short-lived as an even greater threat takes center stage for the end of the Shibuya Incident.
Plot Details
Mahito gives Yuji a target to hit.
There is not a single user of jujutsu who can conjure the sparks of black at will. However, Yuji's fighting ability is so incredible he would make anyone watching believe he's capable of unleashing Black Flash at will. Mahito knows he's vulnerable to being hit by another one of Yuji's Black Flash attacks, meaning going in recklessly will only lead to his end.
Believing he has a countermeasure in mind, Mahito partially deactivates Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing on the left side of his body. The special grade believes Yuji will aim at his sweet spot and that will the chance to counter and decapitate him. Yuji indeed strikes Mahito's left side, appearing to take the bait. Just as Mahito goes for the kill, a second impact throws off the trajectory of his counter strike.
Since his fight with Choso, Yuji has been able to control Divergent Fist at will. Yuji ducks under Mahito's missed attack and prepares to deal the final blow. The cursed spirit reinforces his left side with Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing and tries to hit his opponent first. Suddenly, Todo's voice echoes throughout the battlefield, interrupting Mahito's momentum. Todo stands above the crater his best friend is dueling Mahito inside of. Todo tells the cursed spirit that an arm is simply a decoration and the act of applause is an acclamation of the soul.
Yuji puts an end to his long struggle against Mahito.
The grade 1 sorcerer uses his amputated arm to imitate clapping with his remaining hand. Trying to anticipate the switch, Mahito quickly turns around and attacks. He ends up hitting nothing and realizes that he's been fooled by Todo one last time. Todo apologizes and claims that Boogie Woogie is already dead. Yuji takes advantage of his ally's clever thinking and strikes Mahito with a Black Flash imbued with his maximum cursed energy.
Geto suddenly appears to console his defeated ally.
The impact from Yuji's blow is so fierce it coats his opponent in a streak of cursed energy that blasts the cursed spirit out of the crater. Mahito is heavily injured and depleted of cursed energy, forced out of Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing. Additionally, the special grade is out of transfigured humans. As desperation sets in for Mahito for the first time in his existence, Yuji stands over him.
Just as the curse proclaimed earlier in their fight, Yuji admits that he is Mahito. Yuji no longer requires a reason to kill Mahito and will exorcise curses no matter what form they take. Fully aware he's nothing but a cog in the struggle between the two sides, Yuji is content to play his role as a jujutsu sorcerer against the threat of cursed spirits. Mahito desperately tries to flee as Yuji chases him from behind like a wolf chasing a rabbit through the snow.
Before Yuji can finish off Mahito for good, an even more powerful predator arrives. Pseudo-Geto suddenly appears before Mahito, standing over him and looking down on his fellow special grade. While Yuji and Mahito are both surprised by his sudden appearance, Geto asks if he should save the curse.
